2024…No, 2025.

Thank you benevolent billing department of Squarespace for once again reminding me (to the tune of hundreds of dollars, no less) that I really ought to get back to this.

Well over a year ago we got our last update on Alice and her adventures. August of 2023. Seems both like a different world apart from where I am now and yet more or less the same. I would say I’m once again on the precipice of some great change, but that would be the same tired hymn we gather to sing every few months now. That’s life post-pandemic- always on the precipice of some great change. I would say this is the next Big Thing but the reality is that I’ve mastered the art of eroding Big Changes into smaller, barely noticeable ones.

Which is to say I don’t have any good excuses to not give you more Alice.

A friend- one of my dearest- gifted me a piece of art for Christmas. It’s a watercolor piece with aspects of crayon and charcoal- a dark robed figure riding a white horse down a jagged path, surrounded by mountains and technicolor hills, a shimmering black city on the horizon.

The title of the piece was “A Pale Horse”.

I was stunned. Not only was the art beautiful, but someone remembered this story. Someone besides me.

It felt like a mandate.

But I was still stubborn enough to avoid it for a few more days.

Then the billing for Squarespace dropped.

I really can’t afford the extra couple hundred dollars right now.

But rather than get angry, I instead took it as a sign- it’s time to get back to work. Even if it’s just a single paragraph a week. It’s time.

Besides, Squarespace won’t give refunds for annual renewals lol.

2025 is a year of personal mandates. Lose weight. Save money. Figure out where I’m going. Who will be with me.

That sort of stuff.

Lets add Alice to the list.

See you all very, very soon.
